Friday Funnies

Rose:
Oh, Rose, my toothless wonder.  I can't think of anything funny she
has said recently, so here is a picture of the girls posing for the camera/

Ava:
"Mom, were you born in the 1920s?"
Um...no.  But I think it would have been fun to live in that era.

Madeline:
"Remember when I thought a smoke (cigar) was a candy bar?!"
Not really, but I love that you just called it a smoke.

Ella:
"Mom, she is forgiving me quietly!"
I have taught the girls to say "I forgive you" when someone apologizes to them.  So Ella apologized to Madeline and she practically whispered "I forgive you."  Ella wasn't too happy about that.

Maximus:
My snugly teddy bear.

HAPPY Friday!!!

A Day in My Life: Sunday

Sunday was another relaxing day.  I got up with Maximus around 7:40 and found Rose and Ella already on the couch watching tv.  Ella took her turn holding Max, while I mixed up some pancake batter.

About 15 pancakes later, everyone was fed so Paul headed out the door to take Rose to PREP while I cleaned up the dishes then went upstairs to put baby to bed and get everyone's church clothes out.  Everyone got themselves dressed (except Max, or course), I got myself ready, did everyone's hair and we headed out the door for 11:00 am mass.

When we got home, everyone ate lunch then Maximus went down for a nap.  Paul sat down to watch a little football, I threw chicken in the crockpot then went through my pictures on the computer and the girls made up a show in the basement.

By 3:00, Paul was tired of sitting so he got up to do some home repairs.  I put the rest of the ingredients for the chili in the crockpot then threw in a load of laundry while Paul ran to Lowes to pick up some paint and to the gym to workout.  Meanwhile, the McCarthy kids came over to play in the basement and I talked to Olivia on the phone and made some pumpkin bread.

The chaos

My cute little man in his denim shirt!

We ate dinner in shifts tonight because Rose and Madeline were taking their sweet time cleaning up their part of the basement and weren't allowed to eat until they were done.  After some of us finished dinner, I called the girls up to my bathroom one by one to trim their hair.  I realized as I was cutting that hair trimming may not be on the top of my list of skills.  They all look ok, especially because it is usually in a ponytail but I got a little carried away with Ava's and it is much shorter than I was going for.  Oh well, what are you going do?

When I finished everyone's hair, we prayed, I read one book then went in the basement to put the baby to bed while catching up on my weekly shows.  Meanwhile Paul painted and watched some football in between coats.  Around 9:15, I put Max in his bed, turned the girls' lights out, heated up some of the leftover brie and brought a basket full of laundry in the basement to fold in front of the tv.  Around 10, I went up to cut Paul's hair, then finished my shows and wrapped up the laundry around 11:00.

And that was my Sunday!

A Day in My Life: Saturday

Today was a fairly lazy day.  We didn't have very much on the schedule.  Baby and I got up around 7:40.  I cleaned up the kitchen, then started breakfast.  We usually make a big family breakfast on the weekends.  I scrambled a dozen eggs and popped a pumpkin cream cheese french toast in the oven that I had made a couple days before.  The girls got up in shifts and Paul got up around 8:30.  I usually try to let him sleep in on Saturdays because he never gets to during the week.

We ate breakfast and quickly got dressed so we could be out the door at 9:20 to head to Rose's first basketball game.  We had low expectations after our experience with volleyball, but we were pleasantly surprised by how well they did.  They seemed to catch on to the rules of the game pretty quickly and could actually get the ball in the hoop!  Rose even made a basket!

When we got home, the big girls practiced piano, then everyone ate lunch and went outside to play.  Paul did yard work, while I checked my emails then got baby in bed.

The rest of the afternoon consisted of the girls having a tea party, Rose working on her ocean box, me finally unpacking a suitcase that has been sitting there for 2 weeks (can you tell how much I hate to unpack?!), and Paul cleaning out the van (yes, he is brave!).  I also did some much needed mending while Paul went to work out.

Baby woke up around 3:00, I fed him, then Paul came home.  I finished my mending for the day, then went in the basement to do a workout video.  I had a lot of little tagalongs join me :)

When I finished, I fed the baby again, threw dinner in the oven, then went upstairs to get Maximus, Ella, and Madeline in the tub.  Paul ran to Redbox to return our movie, then to Kroger to pick up a few things.  Rose and Ava took a shower next, then we all sat down for dinner around 6:15.

At the end of dinner, I made Max his first bowl of baby cereal and we all crowded around to see what kind of face he would make after his first bite.  And let me tell you, he did NOT like it!  He gagged, spit up, and cried and cried and cried.  He was so mad!  Haha!  We will have to keep working on that!

The girls did their kitchen jobs, I loaded the dishwasher, then we did a quick clean up of the main floor.  We had about 20 minutes until bedtime, so we played a couple rounds of Heads Up then headed up to bed.

The girls were BOUNCING OFF THE WALLS, so we knew we would have to separate them tonight if we wanted everyone to be asleep at a decent time.  Ella went in our bed (whoever is Star of the Day gets to fall asleep in our bed), then I sent Madeline to Ella's bed and Rose in the hallway.  Well you would have thought I asked Rose and Madeline to cut their arms off they threw such a fit!!!  So unfortunately both of them lost their reading time and had to turn lights out right away.  So I only read Ella and Ava a book, sang Ella a song, then hopped in the shower.

Maximus was screaming when I got out, so I quickly changed, went down to feed him then went back up to sing Ava a song.  I had some brie in the fridge that I bought at the store on Thursday, so I threw that in the oven, then tried to get Max to sleep.  Baby's nap schedule was messed up today, so he had a late nap and did not go to sleep until around 10:00.  I put him in bed, grabbed my brie (didn't get a picture because it didn't look too pretty, but it was good!!!) and headed to the basement to hang with Paul for a bit.

Paul went up around 11:00, but I was still finishing a few emails so I didn't go up until 11:30.  Max woke up right when I got upstairs, so I went in to feed him and found that he was soaked from an overly wet diaper.  So I quickly changed him (he wasn't too happy about that!), fed him, put him in bed and got myself ready for bed.

It was such a nice lazy day!  I soak up every moment of days like these because I know all too soon the girls will have activities that will fill up our entire weekends.

A Day in My Life: Friday

Baby made it the whole night in his own bed!!!  Big victory in the Klinker household last night.  He woke up a couple times, maybe only 2???  When it is that late, it is hard to keep track.  We were supposed to have a homeschool group get together today, but it was cancelled due to sicknesses, so I decided to try to get everyone up and ready for 8:15 mass.  First time since Maximus was born.  My alram went off at 7:00 am and I got up to get myself ready.  The girls slowly woke up on their own and at 7:30 I had them get dressed and I fixed their hair.  Baby woke up around 7:45.  I dressed him, fed him and we were out the door by 8:05.  Since Paul was working from home, he decided to join us.

We got to mass a couple minutes early...that is a win in my book!!!  The kids were pretty well behaved.  I guess the promise of a McDonalds breakfast to all those who were good was a good motivator!  After mass we dropped Paul off at home to get started on work then ran to McDonalds for an unhealthy yet delicious breakfast.  McDonalds breakfast has gotten expensive!  $20 for 5 of us!  But the girls were thrilled because we NEVER go out to breakfast.

Ella was crying because I cut up her pancake and she didn't want it cut up.  Oh the horror!

We got home around 9:20. I threw a load of laundry in then we met in the school room around 9:30 to start on our daily work.  We talked about leaves today.  The girls went outside to collect leaves then we read a book about the changes leaves undergo as the seasons change from summer to fall to winter.  We talked about the differences in color, sizes, and shapes.  We took a break for lunch, then even though it was cold, the girls went on a scavenger hunt to collect different autumn treasures.  We compared, counted, and graphed our findings, practiced our capitalization and punctuation and writing then headed downstairs for snack.

During snack, I started reading An Outlaw Thanksgiving.  We only got about half way through when we had to leave to take Rose to a friend's house for a little party.

Back at home, the neighbor girl, Nora, came over to play with the others and I unloaded the dishwasher with a certain little someone on my hip.  Around 4:00, Paul came home from the gym, I put the baby in the Bumbo seat and started making dinner for Paul's cousin Michelle.  After I got the chicken boiling, the girls asked us to watch the show they made up.  It was a little dance show.  I love to see what their creative minds come up with.

Ella's face!

I was still working on Michelle's dinner around 5, so we sent the neighbor home and Paul ran to pick up Rose.  When he got back, we all hopped in the van and headed to Michelle's.  Her baby is darling!  She feels like a feather compared to my 20 pound boy!  The girls played for a bit while we visited.

We left headed out of there around 6:20 and decided to go to one of our family favorites El Nopal for dinner since I had spent all my time making dinner for them and not for us.  Not exactly the best planning on my part, huh?!  I fed and changed the baby in van (you gotta do what you gotta do) while the others went inside to get a table.

We got home around 7:30.  I sent the girls upstairs to start the bedtime process while I cleaned up the kitchen (Paul was on baby duty).  When I finished, I went upstairs to check on the girls process, which was a little less than desirable.  I hurried them along, we said bedtime prayers, and I finished our book from earlier.  They had about a half hour to read until lights out, so I put a load of laundry in the dryer (from earlier that morning) and started a fresh load.  I went downstairs, fed baby and got him to sleep while Paul and I started a movie.

At 9:00 I went upstairs to put baby in bed, turn lights off, and sing the girls bedtime songs.  Then grabbed a beer (my seasonal favorite) and headed to the basement to finish our movie.  TGIF!
