To Have the Heart of Children

Last night, I walked into Rose and Ava's room to turn the lights out and found Ava laying on the floor.  Being practical, I asked her why she was laying on the floor when she had a perfectly good bed to sleep in.  I wasn't quite prepared for her reply.  She said, "I am doing it as a sacrifice."  Taken aback, I said, "well, that is a good reason."  I encouraged her to think of someone or something to offer it up for and she said, "I am offering it up for you and the baby so the baby will be healthy."

My heart swelled with pride as I left her room that night.  I pray each day that my girls will strive to be saints and in this little moment, I think Ava nailed it on the head.  If only I always had the loving innocence of a child.  I guess parents really can learn a lot from their children.

Among all the frustrations a day can bring, it is moments like these that make me love being a mother.
