Another Barber in Training

I don't know why my daughters insist on practicing their hair styling techniques at such an early age, but it seems to run in the family.  First Rose, who had not just one bad encounter with scissors, but more like four or five, and now Madeline.  I should have locked the scissors away in a safe a long time ago.

This morning, while I was in the shower getting ready to go to our homeschool group get-together, the girls were supposed to be making birthday cards in the school room.  I get out and as I start doing the girls' hair, I notice Madeline's hair didn't feel quite right.  Right then I knew.  Scissors.  I HATE scissors.

The Evidence:

The Damage:
She got poor Ella too.  My baby's hair :(

The Repair:
Madeline's new do, done by yours truly.

Ella's locks required more professional help.

Her first hair cut.

She held so still...such a big girl.

Her new little blonde bob.

Not all of the damage could be repaired, but at least it is better.

Big eyed beauty

They do look cute in their little haircuts.  I just wish they'd let me decide when and where to have their hair cut so it could be done a little more professionally :)  That little stinker.

Friday Funnies

Rose:
"If a dream was like a brick, I would have as many as this whole house."

The girls on "goofy" day for G week

Ava:
When she was mad that she had to do her reading lesson one day, she scowled and said, "I wouldn't make reading lesson books in my factory!"

The sweet picture Ava drew for the Maeser plumber who came to fix our toilets on Monday.

Madeline:
"Do I look like I'm black?"
Madeline asked one day when she was wearing black pants and a black shirt.  I think she meant do I look like the color black.

Madeline's face at Squire Boone Caverns.  I was trying to get a picture of the 3 girls and this is what I got.

Ella:

I asked Ella where my cards were that she was playing with, and she said, "They're gone.  Dragon eat 'em"

HAPPY Friday!

Halloween 2013

Halloween week is always a fun one around here.  We all get into the dressing up and the festivities.  Here are a few of the happenings this week....

The girls in their Halloween shirts.  Don't they look tall?!

Sweet sisters

The girls with their pumpkins

Crazy faces

The night before Halloween, we had our second annual family Halloween party.

The flash and his offspring

A pumpkin, ballerina, doctor, and St. Kateri

A real smile from Ella!!!!  I had to add this one just for her face.

The happy couple - the Flash and Snow White

We had a Halloween - themed dinner, which was super healthy ;)

Banana ghosts and mandarin pumpkins

White-chocolate covered pretzels pumpkins

Caramel apple bites

Mummy dogs

We played some Halloween games.....spin-offs of old favorites:

"Candy" walk

Candy corn Halloween bingo

Pin the face on the jack-o-lantern

Silly girls next to the silly jack-o-lantern

Since the weather didn't cooperate on Halloween night, our neighborhood postponed trick-or-treating to the following night.  So Halloween night, we took it easy with a family movie night.

Friday was a busy day.  We started the day with 8:15 mass since it was All Saints Day, then came home and finished getting the girls saint costumes ready and headed to our homeschool All Saints party.  After an early dinner we headed out trick-or-treating for about 45 minutes then packed everyone in the van and headed to Rose's school for a carnival-themed fun night.

Can you guess which saints they are?

Rose as St. Lucy

Ava as St. Elizabeth of Hungary

Ella with her "Saint Cware"

Trick-or-treating time!
I didn't stress about costumes this year.  Between the costume box and the dress-up bin, whatever they could find, they could wear.  Most of the time, Ella didn't want to keep a costume on.  I think she changed her costume 3 times in the last 10 minutes before we walked out the door.

Dorthy, Dr. Ava, Minnie Mouse, and a bunch of grapes

Trick-or-treating at the McCarthy's house

Ger and Paul on baby duty (with Bella and Ella :)

Ella was SO excited about all the candy.  After every house, she would turn to me and say, "Mommy, I got this one!" and then run to try to keep up with the big girls.  I think the suckers were her favorite.

Cutest bunch of grapes I ever did see ;)

Rose sorting through all her treats

Dr. Ava picking out her favorite 2 to eat

A smiley bunch of grapes

Nightlight at New Song, Rose's school.
Carnival night at New Song

Jugglers

Ella ran up front to sit with Rose.  I love to see the big sister/little sister bond.

Do you think we got enough candy?!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
